What is the typical process of an evaluation?

What can assessment help me with?

​Obtaining an assessment or evaluation can be helpful in many ways! Whether you want to confirm a diagnosis, better understand yourself or your child, rule out possible differential diagnoses, further inform treatment, or obtain services/supports. The answers gained through the process of assessment can help make the path forward more clear.

How long does it take to complete the evaluation process?

Length of time needed to complete the evaluation and provide feedback varies greatly from client to client. Depending on the purpose of the evaluation, as well as the number of presenting concerns, factors can greatly impact the time it takes to reach a conclusion, provide diagnosis(es), and prepare your report.
General estimates for common evaluations are as follows (actual time needed may vary):  

​ADHD: 6-8 hours
Autism: 12-14 hours 
Comprehensive psychological evaluation: 10-14 hours
Learning Disorders/Dyslexia: 8-10 hours
Risk Evaluations: 6-10 hours

What is the cost of assessment?

Total evaluation cost varies per case and a total fee estimate will be discussed in detail during the first meeting with your provider. The general cost of our evaluation services is $225 per hour. These services include intake appointments, assessment/testing appointments, time spent scoring assessment measures and interpreting results, report writing and follow up appointments to review results and recommendations. Should you want your provider to attend school meetings, court proceedings, or engage in other consultation services regarding your evaluation results and recommendations, those costs can be discussed per case with your provider. ​

Is insurance accepted?

We do not currently accept insurance as a form of payment and all evaluations are considered an out-of-pocket cost. Meaning all parts of the evaluation are billed at an hourly rate, including intake interviews, assessment, scoring, reporting writing, and follow up appointments. At the end of the evaluation process we can provide you with a detailed superbill to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. 

Why is insurance not accepted? 

The simple answer is to make the process as straightforward, confidential, and comprehensive as possible. Many insurance companies provide conflicting information on what is and is not covered for evaluation services, leading to confusion for our clients who hope to use their insurance plans but come to find out they will have out of pocket costs regardless of coverage.

Not billing through insurance also increases the confidential process of the evaluation by removing the obligation to report certain information to your insurance company, as well as removes barriers for what can and cannot be done throughout an assessment process. ​

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payment via cash, credit/debit card, or HSA. Preferred payment methods can be saved to your client portal account for easy billing throughout the evaluation process.

​Payments can be made in segments throughout the assessment process as services are rendered. We do not offer payment plans for evaluation services and  payment in full is expected by the end of the evaluation process prior to release of the report. ​

What age range can be seen for an evaluation?

While the appropriate age range can vary depending on the purpose of the assessment, we see clients of almost all ages. From as young as 5 years old through elderly adulthood, we can work with you to get the answers you or your child have been looking for. ​

Does RPAT offer payment plans? 

At RPAT payment is expected at time of service, therefore, we do not offer payment plans. However, your RPAT clinician will be happy to work with you on a plan to structure the assessment process in a way that works with your financial needs.​

What happens after an assessment is complete?

We hope that each client will reach the end of an assessment with a better understanding of themselves and ways to positively move forward. Our clinicians will recommend treatment plans and/or programs that may help to address the present concerns. Our team can provide referrals, contact information, and other assistance needed, as appropriate. ​

Can evaluations be completed virtually?

Portions of the evaluation process (ex. intake, follow up) may be completed via telehealth. . However, the majority of assessment procedures must be completed in person. ​
